Why do you need a blast hose grommet?

Our metering valves install on the bottom of the outside of your blast cabinet. Because of this, you need to drill a hole somewhere in your cabinet in order to route the media hose back inside the cabinet in order to connect it to your blast gun. The edges of any holes you drill in the cabinet are sharp metal that can quickly damage the blast media hose. This grommet protects the hose from cuts and abrasion while also helping to seal the area. Additionally, a grommet creates a clean, professional looking installation and helps absorb vibration.

We include one hose grommet in our hose kits, but you may need or want another. Why would you need more than one blast cabinet hose grommet? There are many reasons but let’s discuss a few of the most common examples.

Some customers like to drill a hole in the shelf of their Harbor Freight blast cabinets and run their media suction hose up through the shelf before it enters back into the cabinet. This creates a cleaner and shorter run that looks great and performs well. It also supports the blast hose a little better and keeps it out of the way. Other customers simply want to keep a spare backup on hand just in case they lose or damage a grommet. Whether you want one or multiple, we’ve got the replacement quantity to meet your needs.

Remember your media siphon hose is a consumable item and eventually needs replaced. A hose replacement is the perfect time to replace damaged, old or worn out grommets.

Installing your blast cabinet hose grommet is simple. First,  carefully drill an appropriately sized hole in your blast cabinet. Next, file and smooth any rough edges. Next, gently push it into place. It shouldn’t be necessary but you can use a little water or silicone based lubricant to help make insertion easier.
